Two Towns Dark, House Burns as Dog Chases Cat

JOHN DAY, Ore. (P) – Two towns lost electrical power and a house caught on fire because a dog chased a cat Monday. The chasing took place on the Clark Morris Ranch, three miles west of John Day. The cat ran up a power pole, and then:

A power line swung against the Morris telephone line. The Morris house caught afire. All power went out in Canyon City and John Day. With no power the fire siren wouldn’t work, so the telephone operator had to round up firemen.

The firemen found Morris and a neighbor getting the fire under control. The cat was found dead beside the pole.
